WBA Africa lightweight champion George ‘The Red Tiger’ Ashie has promised to win a world title sooner rather than later.

The Red Tiger who recently [April] defeated Michael Mokoena via a majority decision to claim the interim WBO Africa lightweight title at the Trust Emporium [Bukom Boxing Arena] in Accra has signed a three year deal with a foremost boxer management company – MTK Global.

Speaking to mtkglobal.com the Commonwealth champion [George Ashie] revealed that he is ready to win a world title under his new management.

“The road is set for greatness with MTK Global.

“I signed with them because I believe their team has what it takes to place me in fights that will move me towards a world title.

“Once I get that shot at one of the champions I won’t disappoint. I’m fully prepared to achieve greatness and become a world champion in the very near future,” Ashie said.

Meanwhile, according to Mike Altamura [MTK Global International Consultant] George Ashie is a true gentleman of the sport [boxing] who needs the opportunity to fighting the top boxers in the lightweight division.

“George is a humble warrior with a true fighting spirit.

“He is a gentleman of the game and is long overdue an opportunity to fight the top lightweights in the world.

“We’ll be able to ensure he gets the right conditions in terms of training camps and the opportunity to challenge for a world championship,” Altamura added.

Many a Ghanaian boxing fun will remember the Red Tiger for his staggering performance when he stood face-to-face with Emmanuel ‘The Game Boy’ Tagoe in their WBA International lightweight title fight back in November 2012.

The crunch boxing extravaganza which was the maiden fight under the auspices of the Baby Jet Promotions saw Emmanuel Tagoe winning the contest in the end [114-114], [113-115], [112-116], but post match analysis in the media favoured the Red Tiger instead of the winner – Game Boy.

The next available boxing event on the purse of MTK Global is the fight between Paul Kean and Jay Byrne at the Crowne Plaza in Glasgow [Scotland] on May 25, 2018.
