Shian Salmon gave it her best shot but it was simply not good enough to overcome the talents of 2017 World U18 champion Zeleny Van Der Walt of South Africa who added the World U20 title to her growing list of honours on Friday.

Salmon, the Jamaican and Carifta U20 champion, started well in the finals of the 400m hurdles at the World U20 Championships in Finland.

She kept her South African rival close and was on her shoulder with two hurdles to go and appeared ready to pounce, but the South African was too strong.

Van Der Walt responded to the Salmon threat and pulled away over the last hurdle to win in 55.34s. Salmon was second in 56.11 while Yasmin Giger of Switzerland was third in 56.98s.
