Jamaica’s Damion Thomas won his country’s first gold medal at the IAAF World U20 Championships on Thursday when he won the 110m hurdles title.

He also became the first Jamaican to win a World U20 title in the event.

The world-leader ran an even race to secure the gold medal in 13.16s ahead of teammate Orlando Bennett (13.33) as Jamaica secured the expected 1-2 finish.

Japan’s Shunsuke Izumiya won the bronze medal in a personal best 13.38s.

Jamaica now has three medals at the championships, following Wayne Pinnock’s bronze in the long jump on Wednesday.
