Head coach of Comoros national team – Amir Abdou has explained the main reason why he decided to throw in more attacking minded players midway through their historic 3-2 win at the Roumdé Adjia Stadium on Tuesday.

The Coelacanths [Comoros], a nation that had never scored a single AFCON goal prior to the start of the game threw history behind them to score three goals against the four time African champions – Black Stars to write their name in gold.

According to the coach he was very convinced that they had what it takes to beat Ghana even when the result was 2-2.

“We did not back down even after Ghana equalized. We always believed we could achieve a famous victory for our nation,” coach Abdou said in a post match interview.

“I sent on attacking players in the belief that we could score a third goal and my decision paid off.

“Now we must wait to see if we are among the best four third-placed teams and play in the second round. We are satisfied with the way we played.

“We had a plan and stuck to it. We learnt from the mistakes we made in previous games.”
