Former Bayern Munich defensive stalwart, Samuel Osei Kuffuor has applauded Stephen Appiah for the kind of leadership role he exhibited during his reign as the captain of the Black Stars.

Recounting on the time he played with Stephen Appiah [with the Germany 2006 FIFA World Cup in focus] at the national team level on Joy [99.7] FM yesterday, Kuffuor who was the senior player in the team then extolled Appiah on the Joy Sports Link Show for his kind of leadership.

“Stephen Appiah was the captain. When we qualified to the World Cup in 2006, he never did anything behind me.

“He showed me respect because I was there before him and honestly, I never thought of being a captain because it is just a band.”

“You show your leadership on the field of play. Let me give you a scenario here, during the 2014 World Cup, Messi was the captain for Argentina but you could see inspiration came from Mascherano,” Kuffuor noted.

“Stephen was a leader, I loved the way he conducted himself in terms of leadership,” Kuffuor said enthusiastically.

Known for his physicality, Samuel Osei Kuffuor played a part in all the Ghana national teams; right from the U-17 [Black Starlets], U-20 [Black Satellites], U-23 [Black Meteors], and the Black Stars.
