South Africa head coach – Hugo Broos could not hide his joy after watching Bafana Bafana after humiliate Ethiopia 3-1 in their Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying game at the Bahir Dar Stadium on Saturday.

The three-star Bafana triumphed courtesy Teboho Mokoena, Mothobi Mvala and Evidence Makgopa goals.

“It was a very difficult game on a very difficult pitch,” the Belgian coach said at the post-match press conference.

“I said to the players before the match that we don’t need the trophy for the football-playing team but we need the trophy today for the team with the most character.

“We showed that character, that mentality even after the equaliser scored by Ethiopia where we fought for every ball.

“We won at last and it’s a great win!”

South Africa sit atop the Group G table with 7 points, a point ahead of Ghana [6 points] who also won their game against Zimbabwe by 3-1 in Cape Coast.

Coach Broos’ side will face Ethiopia in a return leg on Tuesday, October 12 at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.
