Asante Kotoko had to scrap from the depth of the barrel yesterday to gain qualification into the semi final stage of the 2017 MTN FA Cup at the expense of Division One League campaigners, NEA Salamina at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The Porcupine Warriors scored the match winner through Amos Frimpong whose name is gradually becoming synonymous with penalty kicks. The Kotoko captain scored in time added on via the spot to save the day for the host.

The match was heading into penalty shootouts with both clubs level on 1-1 until referee Nuhu Limann’s Christmas Day gift in the 94th minute which took the shine out of the game.

But, coach of the benefactors [Kotoko], Steve Polack lambasted the decision of the referee which gifted his side the win labeling it as – embarrassing.

“I was embarrassed at the penalty. I wanted to win the game, but not this way. It wasn’t a penalty,” the Brit said at the post match conference.

Asante Kotoko has joined the likes of Medeama SC, Hearts of Oak, and Wa All Stars who had all already booked their qualification into the semi final phase.
