Accra Hearts of Oak maintained their superiority in the history of the FA Cup yesterday having won 8-7 on penalties to edge AshantiGold SC at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The Phobians [Hearts] playing in front of their ever chanting fans pressed their accelerator right from the blast of referee Daniel Laryea’s whistle as Patrick Razak went attacking at goal in the second minute, but goalkeeper Kofi Mensah came to the rescue of AshantiGold.

The soccer miners [AshantiGold] came into the picture from the tenth minute, stealing possession away from Hearts but only flatter to deceive whenever they came close to the vital area.

Both sides did not relent in the second stanza as they kept going at each other in search of equalizer but were unsuccessful sending the game into extra time.

Hearts had better exchanges in the first fifteen minutes whiles AshantiGold SC took over the second stanza.

After an entertaining goalless extra time, the rules of engagement which required that a winner should be decided through penalty shootout was duly followed and Hearts of Oak emerged winners after scoring eight of its penalty kicks as against AshantiGold’s seven.
