The much anticipated game between Hearts of Oak and AshantiGold Sporting Club at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday ended goalless with the soccer miners jumping through the hoops to snatch the desired point.
Hearts will feel hard done by the ‘gods of football’ having created clear cut goal scoring opportunities in both stanza, but failing to hit the back of the net within the 90 minute action parked game.
After few incursions into the area of AshantiGold, the Phobians came close to scoring in the 15th minute, but Robert Addo’s header had little power behind it to beat Frank Boateng in post for the soccer miners.
The biggest chance in the first half came the way of Daniel Afriyie in the 39th minute, but the young striker could not put his team in front, failing to score from just three yards away.
Daniel Afriyie came close again in the 47th minute but his attempt at goal went straight into the waiting arms of goalkeeper Frank Boateng.
AshantiGold quickly responded and forced two great saves from the Hearts of Oak goalie – Richard Atta.
The acrobatic goalkeeper saved Benedict Wobenu’s goal aiming header in the 51st minute before dealing with a threatening long drive from James Appiah McCarthy in the 55th minute.
In the 85th minute, however, Kofi Kordzi raced to meet Benjamin Eshun’s cross into the eighteen yard box but his header went off target.
