Australia will witness its biggest sporting spectacular – The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games [GC2018] from April 04 to 15.
The Commonwealth Games otherwise known as the British Empire Games is an international multi-sport event involving athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations.
Before the Commonwealth Games hit Queensland [Australia], here are some few quick facts:
Population: Gold Coast City’s population is more than 500,000 with an estimated 320,000 additional people to call the city home by 2035. It is Australia’s sixth largest city.
Land Mass: The region encompasses of 5,000 square kilometers [km] with 70 km of navigable waterways and 100,000ha of the world-heritage listed rainforests.
Coastline: The tourism destination spans Yatala and South Strandbroke Island to the north; Cabarita, and Kingscliff in the south; and west to Beaudesert including world heritage listed national parks.
International visitors per year: 7819,000 international visitors as at 2014.
Domestic visitors per year: 3.5 million overnight domestic visitors as at 2014.
