The 2017 Ghana Premier League [GPL] has been paused for one month, a statement from the Premier League Board [PLB] has confirmed.

According to the PLB, the move to suspending the league will help clear all outstanding matches, give way for the MTN FA Cup matches, as well as allow the Black Stars B ample time to prepare ahead of their Championship of African Nations [CHAN] qualifying match against Burkina Faso.

Meanwhile, the quarterfinal matches of the 2016/2017 MTN FA Cup will be honoured this weekend – Saturday and Sunday. The players of the Black Stars B team will also begin a week residential camping from Monday, July 31.

The Premier League will however return on August 26 to pave way for the matchday 25 to be cleared.

According to the statement from the PLB, the league will go on a three-week break after matchday 26 which will be played on August 30. The second break will allow the Black Stars B team to participate in the 2017 WAFU [West African Football Union] tournament.

Below are proposed dates for all outstanding matches to be cleared:

Sunday, July 30 – AshantiGold SC vs. WAFA [Len Clay Stadium]

Sunday, August 06 – Asante Kotoko vs. Hearts of Oak [Baba Yara Stadium]

Wednesday, August 23 – WAFA vs. Asante Kotoko [Red Bull Arena]
