The Fédération Internationale de Football Association [FIFA] has cautioned the government of Ghana to withdraw its application to the law court seeking to liquidate the Ghana Football Association [GFA] or being banned from football.

In a letter dated August, 13th and signed by Fatma Samoura [Secretary General] stated that the path taken by the government of Ghana is in breach of articles 14 par 1 [i] and 19 par 1 of the FIFA statutes.

Ghana football got choked on June 7, 2018 following the public premiering of Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ documentary on match-fixing and corruption which was code named Number 12 – “When Greed and Corruption Become the Norm.”

The government of Ghana through the Attorney General on June 12, 2018 secured an interlocutory injunction on the activities of the Ghana Football Association which was thereafter declared a crime scene.

An Accra High Court ruling on July 12, 2018 ordered that members, directors, and officers of the GFA be restrained from exercising their powers.

The ruling also appointed the Registrar of companies as the official liquidator of the defunct Ghana Football Association.

Madam Gloria Akuffo [The State Attorney] argued that the Ghana Football Association is not fit for purpose as the entity is being used for illegal purposes and that the injunction application is necessary in other to protect the public.

But, according to the world football governing body [FIFA] the scope of the investigations into the allegations of widespread match-fixing and corruption within the GFA remains unclear,

FIFA therefore argues that the petition introduced by the Attorney General to the High Court to start the liquidation process of the GFA constitutes an undue influence in the affairs of the Ghana Football Association.

FIFA, however, warns that if the government ceases to withdraw its petition that seeks to liquidate the Ghana Football Association by Monday, August 27, the GFA will be suspended.
