Content Manager, Audio/Video, Product & Services at MTN Ghana – Yaw Antwi Boadu has revealed that e-sports is an alternative source of income for people.

Mr. Antwi Boadu noted this at the climax of Ghana’s most competitive e-sports event – The MTN Conquest 2021 Competition held on Saturday, July 31 at the Esports Academy in Haatso, Accra.

“It is worth noting that Games serve as another source of income for people so beyond the fun it creates for the players and observers,” he said.

“It is quite intriguing that people sit in Ghana and connect with other people around the world to play competitive games to win very good sums of money.

“We [MTN] are excited that this year, the competition has been organized to further reiterate the benefits of e-sports and the need to promote it to develop qualities such as problem solving skills, teamwork, concentration, improved communication in our youth.”

MTN Conquest 2021 offered Gamers with a unique platform to exhibit their skills in games such as FIFA21 and Gran Turismo while winning part of the GHc30,000 pot prize in the process.

According to Antwi Boadu, his outfit believes that ‘everyone deserves the benefits of a modern connected life.’

“MTN Ghana believes that, ‘everyone deserves the benefits of a modern connected life’ and e-sports plays a crucial role in the digitalization process.

“This is because after staying online to study, engaging in business etc., you need something to take off that stress and e-sports could be that solution.

“For this reason, we initiated the e-sports competition a few years ago to enable people who for some reasons may not enjoy physical sports activities but will still love to have fun, to do so.

“We also organized a conference in 2019 which brought together some renowned personalities in Gaming to share their thoughts on this budding industry in Ghana.

“Further MTN’s actions to promote Gaming and e-sports for that matter, MTN has a partnership with Google which allows customers to link their MoMo account with the Play store to pay for their games. Customers who subscribe to this service have the opportunity to practice the games they purchase to become better at it.”
