Enterprising American sprinter and neurobiologist – Gabrielle Thomas made history on Friday having beaten Shericka Jackson and Dina Asher Smith to equal the Doha Diamond League record after storming to victory in the women’s 200m race.

Thomas, the third-fastest woman of all time in the 200 meters [21.61 seconds] crossed the finished line in 21.98 seconds.

Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson came second with a season-best time of 22.07 seconds, while Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith came third with a personal best of 22.37 seconds.

The wind died a little for the women’s 200m, though, with the sprinters benefiting from a 1.3m/sec tailwind.

World champion, Asher-Smith looked disappointed after her effort although it was her first shorter sprint competition of the year after early-season.
