Jamaican Commonwealth champion Kimberly Williams was forced to settle for second spot in the women’s triple jump behind Olympic champion Caterine Ibargüen, who tied her season best to claim top spot at the Paris Diamond League meet on Saturday.
As has often proven the case in recent competitions, Ibargüen was in a different class on the day and took full control of the field with her third round jump.
The Colombian’s leap registered 14.83 on the board to surge into the lead and leave her competitors to play catch up.
Williams, who had led the way after two rounds, could not match the feat and recorded her best jump in the fifth round, a leap of 14.56 which was good enough for the silver medal.
American record holder Tori Franklin was third with a leap of 14.49, with her best mark recorded in the second round.
Another Jamaican athlete who took part in the event Shanieka Ricketts was fifth with a leap of 14.38, having saved her best jump for the final round.
