Supporters of Cameroon have congratulated the efforts of Russia to fighting against any form of discrimination at the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup.
The supporters of the Indomitable Lions [Cameroon] harbored fears of racism going into the tournament following what happened in May when the Confederations Cup carnival was held in Sochi.
Social media got buzzed when participants who were meant to be portraying Cameroon covered themselves in Black paint with bananas in the parade, but the supporters have expressed that the reception at the Confederations Cup has been very humane.
“The reception is very good and there have been no problems. Russians are very good people,” a reporter said in an interview.
The African champions suffered a 2-0 defeat at the expense of Chile at the Spartak Stadium in Moscow on Sunday.
Cameroon’s next match is on Thursday against the Socceroos of Australia who lost 2-3 to Germany on Monday.
