FC Esae became the first Beninese club to progress to the group stages of the Total CAF Confederations Cup after beating Senegal’s Generation Foot 4-3 on post match penalties after a 1-1 aggregate draw.

The game was forced to Penalties after Generation Foot won the return tie 1-0 in Benin on Tuesday night to send the game 1-1 on aggregate with Esae having won the first leg in Dakar by a similar margin.

Cherif Bayo scored the lone goal for the visitors in the 42nd minute of the game to swing the final play off match to a balance. Despite the home side piling pressure in the second half, they could not get that one goal to win in normal time.

On penalties though they were lucky as they hit the back of the net four times with the visitors only managing to get three behind the net.

The Beninese club will now go into Sunday’s draw, hoping to continue their strong run on the competition.
