Welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. dished out some heavy shots into the body of Lamont Peterson before stopping him in the eighth round to retain his IBF title on Saturday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York [USA].
The undefeated champion – Errol Spence, tipped as one of the best of boxing rising stars peppered the former champion [Lamont] before dropping him in the fifth round.
Peter Peterson refused to be ruled out via the counts, but his coach [Barry Hunter] stopped the fight just a second into the eighth round as his boxer’s eyes kept swirling.
The victory marks Spence’s tenth straight [23-0] with twenty coming through knockouts.
The American claimed the title from Kell Brook in May 2017.
Errol Spence thanked Lamont Peterson for stepping up to fight him as others keeps retreating:
“I want to thank Lamont Peterson.
“A lot of guys turned down the fight and he took it like a real fighter and I commend him for that.”
He however took a swipe at Keith Thurman who he claims has been making excuses which has prevented the two from coming face-to-face.
“Everybody knows I’ve been waiting for ‘One-time’ Thurman, since I was 15-0 and he keeps making excuses after excuses.”
“Let’s get it on, man,” he dared Keith ‘One-time’ Thurman.
