Wolverhampton Wanderers FC made a winning start to their 2020/21 campaign as two first half goals from Raul Jimenez and Romain Saiss saw them beat Sheffield United 2-0 at Bramall Lane on Monday.
The Wanderers who finished seventh last season were quick out of the blocks, scoring all their goals under six minutes.
Usual suspect, Raul Jimenez broke the deadlock from 12 yards having steered home Daniel Podence’s low cross into the penalty area.
While Wolves were dynamic, fluid and enterprising in attack, the Blades on the other hand were uncharacteristically out of sort as they looked laboured and predictable going forward in the first 45 minutes of the game.
Aaron Ramsdale made a good save to push Raul Jimenez’s effort over the crossbar in the 5th minute but he couldn’t save Sheffield for the second time on the road as Romain Saiss headed home Pedro Neto’s corner in the 6th minute.
Chris Wilder’s side improved at the start of the second half and had two good chances.
Enda Stevens latched on to McBurnie’s flick-on and got in behind Adama Traore but he was unable to keep his shot down from a tight angle.
Lundstram also linked up with John Fleck who saw his shot strike the foot of the far post, before George Baldock’s follow-up was deflected wide.
McBurnie saw his header cleared off the line by Saiss to deny the Blades of any consolation in added time.
Nuno Espirito Santo who signed new three-year contract recently with Wolves was full of praise of his players in his post match interview.
