Emmanuel Clottey’s neatly taken free kick in time added on denied Asante Kotoko a sweet victory at the Berekum Golden City Park on Sunday as Chelsea staged a rapturous comeback.

The Golden City Park has not been a fertile grounds for the Porcupine Warriors in recent times, but the visitors called the bluff of Berekum Chelsea in the 25th minute when Kwame Poku gave Asante Kotoko the lead.

Kwame Poku’s goal went a long way in awakening the spirit of Berekum Chelsea’s attacking triumvirate of Stephen Amankona, Stephen Sarfo and Mohammed Gonji, but Asante Kotoko’s 4-man defensive wall – Christopher Nettey, Imoro Ibrahim, Habib Mohammed and Abdul Ganiyu Ismael were intelligently alert as they neutralized most of the attacking threats from the home side.

Emmanuel Gyamfi’s through ball late in the first stanza found Kwame Poku in the opposite goal area, but the striker shot off target.

Chelsea returned from the break with fire in their eyes, pushing more men into the attacking area of the visitors in search of goal.

With Asante Kotoko negotiating for a slim win, coach Hesse Odamtten introduced experience duo – Jordan Opoku and Emmanuel Clottey and their presence duly paid off for Berekum Chelsea.

Kotoko goalkeeper – Felix Annan forced a save from Emmanuel Cottey’s free kick after the hour mark before making a magnificent finger tip save to deny Stephen Amankona whose header was heading straight into the net.

Felix Annan could not finish the game having suffered injury in the 83rd minute.

Emmanuel Clottey could not be denied for the second time as his well taken free kick from outside the box went straight into the net, denying Asante Kotoko for the second time in a row having suffered a similar feat in their matchday 1 game against Eleven Wonders at the Accra Sports Stadium.
