Ghanaian defender Daniel Amartey had an excellent game for Leicester City despite the loss to Premier League leaders Manchester City in the League Cup on Tuesday, December 19.
Amartey who has barely started games for Leicester this season did not show any sign of rustiness. A night which was full of late drama and controversy ended with Manchester City securing their place in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup on penalties after Jamie Vardy missed from the spot and Claudio Bravo also denying Riyad Mahrez.
Vardy had scored a 97th-minute penalty at the end of regulation time to take the match into extra time but the Leicester striker was unable to do the same in a shootout that finished with Pep Guardiola’s men celebrating in front of the travelling supporters. Both sides made a total of 16 changes to their starting IX.
The evening had promised to be much more straightforward for Manchester City, who were on the verge of victory courtesy of Bernardo Silva’s early goal, only for Leicester to equalize in a contentious circumstance through Jamie Vardy.
Demarai Gray tangled with Kyle Walker, falling to the ground in the City area, and it was difficult to ignore the feeling that the Leicester winger made the most of any contact.
Amartey who started the game at right back played his 5th game in all competitions for Leicester City this season. He won 2 fouls, had a passing accuracy of 86% and completed 50 passes.
