Premier Soccer League side, Bidvet Wits have confirmed that winger – Elias Gaspar Pelembe has not been able to return to camp due to the border closure between South Africa and Mozambique.
The former Desportivo Maputo and Supersport United [Pelembe] midfielder traveled to his home town in Mozambique prior to the lockdown and has since been stranded because of the travel ban arising out of the coronavirus pandemic.
Bidvest Wits say winger Elias Pelembe is still one of their players but have confirmed that he remains stranded in Mozambique.
The Clever Boys [Bidvet] have been in camp for weeks now preparing ahead of the resumption of the 2019/20 PSL season, but without the 36-year-old midfielder.
Speaking in an interview with KickOff, CEO of the club – Jonathan Schloss said though the player is stranded, he’ll be marched straight to camp once he is able to cross the border:
“Yeah, he is [still a Wits player], he’s just stuck in Mozambique,” Jonathan Schloss told KickOff.
“So immediately when he crosses the border, he will come. I can’t do it without him [renew Pelembe’s contract].”
Pelembe won the Premier Soccer League Player of the Year Award in the 2007/2008 season.
