Nigerian giants Enyimba put one foot into the group stages of the Total CAF Confederation Cup after beating South African second-tier side, TS Galaxy 2-0 in the first leg of the play-off round on Sunday evening.
Goals from Victor Mbaoma and Martin Usule saw the Nigerian outfit earn a win at home, and the clean sheet they kept now puts them at ease heading into the return leg in South Africa, needing just a draw to book a slot in the group stages.
The home side broke the deadlock in the seventh minute of the game when Mbaoma scored his first goal for the club when he connected to an Abdulrahman Bashir cross. Enyimba continued to dominate proceedings and had more chances to score, but they could not extend their tally taking the 1-0 lead into the break.
They however cushioned their lead on the hour mark when Usule rifled home a brilliant shot.
In N’Djamena, Chadian side Elect Sport were stunned by a late goal by visiting Djoliba of Mali. Oumar Camara scored the only goal five minutes from time.
Elsewhere in Kumasi, the tie between Ghanaian side Asante Kotoko and Ivorian outfit FC San Pedro was called off in the second half due to heavy rains with the scores tied at 0-0. The match will continue tomorrow.
