Egypt remained winless after two matches in the qualification run up for the 2021 Total Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after being held to a frustrating goalless draw by Comoros in Moroni on Monday evening.

The seven-time African champions have now accumulated just two points from two games after being held to a 1-1 draw by Kenya’s Harambee Stars in the Group G opener in Alexandria last Thursday.

Comoros now sit top of the group with four points having picked a 1-0 victory away to Togo on Match Day one. In their home tie, against the Pharaohs, they were unlucky not to pull off a shocking win when danger-man Faiz Selemani was denied by the crossbar.

Selemani was Comoros’ biggest danger in the match and time-to-time gave the Egyptian backline marshaled by Ahmed Hegazi a torrid time. Egypt were restricted in their chances with Mahmoud Kahraba and Mahmoud ‘Trezeguet’ Hassan being closely marked.

The two had created Egypt’s opening chance early on when Kahraba squared the ball to Trezeguet, but his shot came off the upright.

The absence of star talisman Mohammed Salah through injury once again proved catastrophic for the Egyptians who now have a lot to do when the qualifiers resume next year.
