Ghanaian boxer – Richard Commey is at war tonight in a junior welterweight [10 rounds] showdown against former two-weight world champion – Jose “Sniper” Pedraza at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa.

But, what has been dominating the tabloids for the past eighteen hours in Ghana is whether the boxer has the right to fight under the Ghana flag or not.

The Ghana Boxing Authority [GBA] issued a statement yesterday morning to warn the boxer to desist from fighting under the Ghana flag, but Commey’s management issued a counter statement later in the day, insisting that the former lightweight champion is a Ghanaian and will use the flag regardless.

After the back and fought, Richard Commey [30-4, 27 KOs] showed up at the weigh-in ceremony cladded in the Ghana flag and weighing 138.8 Ibs while Jose Pedraza tilted the scale at 139.8 Ibs.

Commey lost his last fight against Vasiliy Lomachenko in December, 2021 and is hoping to bounce back with a win over Pedraza, but as to whether that will materialize tonight will be the best judge as he mount the ring once again.

It remains to be seen, however, whether the Ghana Boxing Authority will sanction the boxer for flouting its rules.
