Hearts of Oak head coach – Samuel Boadu has shared his delight on how his second half substitutes impacted in their 1-1 draw game against Karela Football Club at the Camp Park in Ayinase on Sunday.
The Phobians looked the more composed side in the first stanza, but they could not turn possession into goals, drawing blanks in the first 45 minutes.
Samuel Boakye, however, broke the deadlock for the home side in the 71st minute having capitalized on a defensive mistake from Hearts to punish the Phobians appropriately.
But, just as Karela thought they were going to pick their first home win in the second round of the league Kwadwo Obeng Junior pulled parity for Hearts of Oak with a towering header in the 85th minute from Salifu Ibrahim’s well taken corner kick.
Speaking in a post match interview, coach Samuel Boadu was full of praise for his substitutes – Kwadwo Obeng Jr., Michelle Sarpong and Isaac Mensah, saying their involvement in the game was tactical.
“Bringing in Kwadwo Obeng Jr., Michelle Sarpong and Isaac Mensah was a tactical decision and you see it aided in us equalizing,” the coach said.
“We could have finished the game in the last few minutes with two chances but it’s unfortunate.”
Meanwhile, Samuel Boadu opined that his side deserved a win rather than the draw but a point is okay for him.
“Both team played well, we had lots of possession and we held the ball more in the first half.
“It’s unfortunate they scored first from a defensive mistake, but we came strongly to cancel their goal.”
