The starting date for the 2022 Africa Nations Championship [CHAN] has been shifted from January to June/July, according to Algerian Football Federation [FAF] secretary-general Mohamed Saad.

The change of dates was necessitated after the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations was pushed back for a year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Last week, CAF announced that the 2020 CHAN will take place in Cameroon in January 2021 as the 2021 AFCON was rescheduled to January 2022 but the Algerian Football Federation claim that they’ve received a correspondence from CAF which suggest that the tournament has been postponed to the summer of 2022 instead.

“We recently received correspondence from the African football confederation which asked us to postpone the CHAN 2022 to the summer of 2022, after AFCON 2022 was pushed to January 22. CAF has suggested organizing this competition between June and July, but we will be making a final decision shortly in consultation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports,” Mohamed Saad told an Algerian radio station.

The Total African Nations Championship [CHAN] is a biennial football tournament organized by the Confederation of African Football [CAF] exclusively featuring players from the respective national leagues.
