Captain of the dreaded Indomitable Lions that represented Cameroon at the 1990 FIFA World Cup – Stephen Tataw Eta has passed on, the Cameroon Football Federation [FECAFOOT] has announced.

According to FECAFOOT, Tataw, aged 57, died on Friday, 31 July 2020 in Yaounde after a short illness.

The dependable right-back will forever be remembered for his great leadership role having led the Indomitable Lions to reach the quarter-final stage of the 1990 World Cup in Italy.

The Indomitable Lions shocked the world when they beat the then reigning world champions – Argentina by 1-0 in the opening game of the Mundial and went as far as the quarter final phase, becoming the first African nation to achieve that feat.

Tataw played a key role as Cameroon lifted the African Cup of Nations in 1988.
