The Confederation of African Football [CAF] has opened investigation into the sudden incident that occured outside the Olembe Stadium in Yaounde, Cameroon on Monday leading to the death of eight people according to reports.

The unfortunate incident happened in the aftermath of the Cameroon vs. Comoros Round of 16 clash in which the Indomitable Lions fought galantly to beat the Comoros 2-1.

“CAF is aware of the incident that took place at Olembe Stadium during the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations fixture between hosts Cameroon and Comoros tonight, 24 January 2022,” a statement from CAF said.

“CAF is currently investigating the situation and trying to get more details on what transpired.

“We are in constant communication with Cameroon government and the Local Organizing Committee.”

According to multiple reports, dozens of people received various degree of injuries arising out of the stampede.
