Nigeria’s Enyimba, South African giants Orlando Pirates and Cameroon’s Coton Sport were some of the teams which progressed to Monday’s Group Stage draw of the Total CAF Confederation Cup with victories of their play-off round matches on Sunday.

Noble heroics sees Enyimba win all Nigerian contest

Goalkeeper John Noble was the hero of his side as Enyimba beat fellow Nigerians Rivers United 5-4 on post-match penalties in Port Hacourt to progress to the group stages.

Noble saved two penalties, including Israel Emmanuel’s in sudden death before stepping up to score his own as Enyimba cruised. The shoot-out went to sudden death after a 4-4 stalemate in the first five with Noble having saved Kunle Odunlami’s effort.

Rivers United won the return leg by a solitary goal scored by Malachi Ohawuma to tie the aggregate scores at 1-1 after Enyimba won the first leg via the same margin.

Coton Sport soar on

Araina Nguieme scored the lone goal in the 73rd minute of the match as Cameroon’s Coton Sport beat Niger’s AS Sonidep by a solitary goal to progress to the group phase.

Coton won via the same margin in Niamey last week and were made to work hard before the goal 17 minutes from time sealed their place and calmed their nerves.

Kabylie extinguishes the hopes of Stade Malien

JS Kabilye progressed with fine margins on the away goals rule after a 1-0 victory at home on Sunday. The victory took the aggregate scores to 2-2, having lost the first leg 2-1 to the Malian outfit.

In the return tie at home, Kabilye were forced to work hard but got the all important goal through Badreddine Souyad in the fourth minute of the match.

Pirates swim into group stage

Onassis Linda Mntambo’s 58th minute goal earned South African giants Orlando Pirates a slim 1-0 win over Jwaneng Galaxy of Botswana as they confirmed their ticket to the group stages of the competition.

Pirates had won the first leg 3-0 in Botswana and progressed with a 4-0 aggregate score.
