Al Ahly club of Egypt have raised serious objection at the appointment of referee Bakary Papa Gassama to officiate in their upcoming epic CAF Champions League semifinal match against Wydad Casablanca.

According to the club’s director of football – Sayed Abdelhafid, the experienced Gambian referee was biased in their quarterfinal clash with Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa.

“Gassama has just officiated our return quarterfinal match against Mamelodi Sundowns, how can he be named again?, Sayed Abdelhafid quizzed.

Gassama is not the sole arbiter of the continent,” Abdelhafid told Le 360 Sport.

The Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup, will resume in September with a final four format as announced by the continental football body last week.

The semifinal matches will be played in a single match at Japoma Multisport Complex in Douala, Cameroon.
Al Ahly will take on Wydad as Zamalek travel to Raja Casablanca in the other semifinal encounter.

Born on February 10, 1979, Bakary Gassama became FIFA referee in 2007. He officiated at the 2012 Olympic Games tournament in London, serving as the fourth official in the gold medal match between Mexico and Brazil.
