Ghanaian goalkeeper – Richard Ofori has urged his Maritzburg United FC teammates to finish the season on a good note as the Absa Premiership resumes on Tuesday, August 11.

The Team of Choice [Maritzburg United] sits 5th on the league log with 39 points and will play its first match post the COVID-19 break against Black Leopards on Sunday, August 16 at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.

Sharing his delight on the resumption of the Absa Premiership, the Maritzburg United captain [Ofori] said they are motivated to finish the season on a good mark.

“We can finish the season strong because we are highly motivated after our great start to the season. We have worked very hard since the start so we shall finish strong,” the agile Ghanaian goalie said.

“I feel great that the league has resumed because we missed the action and it also gives the teams a chance to fight for their own destiny, like getting promoted from the lower leagues, qualifying for MTN8 and winning the league.”

The Black Stars No. 1 goalkeeper, however, believes that the long break could affect the team’s sharpness and the overall chemistry of play:

“The team is very strong and solid because we have been training individually during the lockdown but we need to start smart because of match fitness and hopefully finish the season in a good position.”

Maritzburg United’s last game prior to the break was on March 06, 2020 when they beat Polokwane City 1-0 at the
Harry Gwala Stadium.

Having enjoyed a great season for the Team of Choice, with 10 clean sheets, Richard Ofori has attracted lots of offers from the big teams in the Premier Soccer League.
