The Black Stars B missed out on the opportunity to represent Ghana at next year’s Championship of African Nations tournament [CHAN] in Kenya having succumbed to a 1-2 defeat to Burkina Faso at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Sunday, August 20.
Ghana had an upper hand to qualify at the expense of their Burkinabe counterpart after playing a 2-2 drawn in the first leg in Ouagadougou, but just when every Ghanaian thought that the Black Stars B team were going to ease past the visitors in Kumasi they rather failed to amuse as the strong spirited Burkinabe side manage to beat Ghana 2-1 to take the qualification slot.
Two goals within twenty minutes from Mohammed Sylla and Herman Nikiema was all but Burkina Faso’s trump card to the 2018 CHAN tournament as Ghana could not rise above the waters to pull a last minute magic.
Meanwhile, coach Maxwell Konadu has rendered an unqualified apology to the people of Ghana for the team’s inability to qualify for the tournament which is activated solely for local based players.
“The boys did their best and we guided them to how to be victorious, but unfortunately for us that couldn’t happen,” he said.
“The boys are all down, so the mood in camp is not good, but we think that it is football, we did whatever we had to do in order to reverse the scoreline but we couldn’t,” he added.
The Championship of African Nations tournament [Kenya 2018] will start from January 12 to February 04, 2018.
