Billy Joe ‘Superb’ Saunders has withdrawn from his WBO middleweight title defence against Martin Murray due to a fresh hamstring injury.

The battle of the two Brit had been scheduled to take place at the 02 Arena in London on Saturday, June 23rd.

“Due to injury I had to withdraw from the 23rd, you have your ups in boxing but last 3 months been downs,” Saunders wrote via his twitter handle.

“Sorry to Martin and the fans, be back soon.”

According to Frank Warren [Saunder’s promoter] a full statement will be released in the course of the day and apologized on his client’s part.

“We apologize for any inconvenience.”

Meanwhile, Murray [35] was shocked at the news:

“I am obviously gutted, but there’s nothing I can do.

“I want to apologize to everyone who’s bought tickets, booked hotels and train fares, and just say thank you for your continued support and believing me.

“My management team is working on an alternative, so hopefully I’ll have a new date in the next couple of weeks.”

Billy Joe Saunders [28], unbeaten in 26 fights defended his title in December 2015.
