Betway Ghana [an online sports betting company] has pledged to support the Gaming Commission in its quest to clamp down on under-aged betting in the country.

Under-aged gambling has lately been on the rife due to the proliferation of various gaming outlets across the country a situation which has clicked on the doors of the Gaming Commission to come out with regulatory measures to help curb the growing menace in the society.

The Gaming Act [721] 2006, section 48 stipulate that under-aged children must not be given entry to places where gambling machines are operated:

“A person responsible for a gambling machine shall not permit a child to use the gambling machine or to enter a place where the gambling machine is operated.”

The Gaming Commission reckons that exposing children to betting violate the law and has urged operators to desist from such act. The Commission has also decided to deploy a special taskforce to clamp down on operators who encourage under-aged gambling.

Meanwhile, speaking at a stakeholders meeting under the theme “Meeting Emerging Trends to Promote Gaming the Right Way,” Kwabena Oppong Nkrumah [Marketing Manager of Betway Ghana] assured that his outfit is in full support of the Gaming Commission in their attempt to control the growing menace in the industry.

“Protecting minors in this industry is a challenge for us all and we have been leading the advocacy against under-aged betting since 2016. It is therefore encouraging to see and hear the Gaming Commission engaging stakeholders in the industry to control the menace”

“The sanctity of the industry is very important to us and we do not want the industry to become a conduit detrimental to our very social fabric.”

Mr. Kwabena Oppong Nkrumah further called for more collaborative efforts between all the industry players in other to achieve this important target.
