Coach Bashir Hayford has explained the reason why he is yet to start Asamoah Gyan in any of Legon Cities Ghana Premier League games.

The former Black Stars captain has made paltry cameos since joining The Royals at the start of the campaign and many journalists keep asking why Ghana’s highest goal scorer is yet to kick the gear for Legon Cities, but the manager of the side has set the record straight, saying they do not want to rush the former Sunderland and Al Ain FC striker.

“We are managing him. We don’t want to rush him,” said coach Bash.

“Gyan was very effective for us when he came in and you saw that,” he added.

Legon Cities lost 0-1 to WAFA at the Red Bull Arena in Sogakope yesterday, but Asamoah Gyan nearly made an instant impact when he came on in the dying minutes of the game, missing the post by a whisker from a free kick.

Coach Bashiru Hayford further reiterated that they [Legon Cities] could have won the day if they had taken their chances:

“It was a good match. A very good one.

“A game with plenty of chances for us but couldn’t take any of them.

“The goal that didn’t come is what let us down because my boys gave everything.”
