Newly appointed Bafana Bafana coach – Hugo Broos has arrived in South Africa to begin work.

The Belgian manager who has signed a five-year contract to the 2026 FIFA World Cup touched down in Johannesburg on Monday night and was met on arrival by SAFA President – Dr. Danny Jordaan and deputy chair of SAFA Technical Committee Bhudha Mathathe.

Broos, a member of the Belgian national team that reached the World Cup semifinals in 1986 immediate task with South Africa will be to take Bafana through the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers that are now likely to begin in September.

South Africa is drawn in the same group with Ghana, Zimbabwe and Ethiopia.

Bafana Bafana last qualified for the FIFA World Cup in 2002 [Japan/Korea] when they were coached by Carlos Quieroz.

Hugo Broos has become the ninth foreigner to coach Bafana Bafana since South Africa returned to the international fold in 1992.

Meanwhile, the first manager to guide Bafana Bafana to its first ever FIFA World Cup [France 98] was Clive William Barker, otherwise known as ‘The Dog.’
