Evidence Makgopa scored brace as new look Bafana Bafana came from a goal down at half time to beat Uganda 3-2 in a friendly international match played at Orlando Stadium on Thursday, 10 June 2021.

The Cranes took the lead just 15 minutes into the game through a header from striker Ibrahim Orit. Uganda could have extended their lead midway through the first stanza, but Emmanuel Okwi shot wide with only goalkeeper Ronwen Williams standing between him and goal.

South Africa came into the picture after the introduction of Evidence Makgopa and Thabiso Kutumela whose presence changed the dimension of the game abruptly.

Makgopa restored parity for coach Helman Mkhalele’s men before Bongokuhle Hlongwane gave Bafana Bafana the lead with a brilliant finish.

Evidence Makgopa made it 3-1 for South Africa with a powerful shot that beat goalkeeper Isima Watenga who had come out to close the angle.

But, the Cranes pulled one back deep into injury time to reduce the deficit.

South Africa have been drawn in the same group with Ghana, Zimbabwe, and Ethiopia in the 2nd round qualifiers of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
