Novak Djokovic is delighted to claim yet another title, but he offers a lot of perspective after what has happened in this month.
“I would to like to start by saying congratulations for Dominic for the amazing tournament. It wasn’t meant to be tonight,” he says.
“It was a tough match but you were very close to winning it. You have a lot of time left in your career and I’m sure you will win more than one Grand Slam trophy.
” I would like to thank my team and my family. My brother is here thank you for coming all the way to Australia to spend some quality brother time and hopefully you enjoyed.
“There was some devastating things to start 2020 with the bushfires, conflicts in some parts of the world, obviously one person that I considered close in my life and a mentor to me, Kobe Bryant passed away.
“I would just like to say that this is a reminder to all of us that we should stick together more than ever now.
“Be with our families and stay close to the people that love you and care abut you. We compete and we try our best but there’s more important things in life but its important to be conscious and humble.”
For his efforts Djokovic will take home a whopping $4.12 million in Australian Open prize money.
