The renaissance of AshantiGold SC continued yesterday as the soccer miners beat relegation threatened Tema Youth Sporting Club 2-0 at the Len Clay Sports Stadium in Obuasi.
Tema Youth survived an early scare as Amos Addai’s goal bound shot in the 13th minute flashed off the bar.
AshantiGold came close again in the 23rd minute, but Tema Youth goalkeeper Eric Adjetey saved Shafiu Mumuni’s effort to keep the Habour City Boys in motion.
Leading striker [Hans Kwofie] gave AshantiGold SC the lead in the 33rd minute having been put through by Shafiu Mumuni.
Shafiu Mumuni extended the lead for the miners in the 53rd minute as he connected from McCarthy Appiah’s free kick into the eighteen yard box.
AshantiGold is comfortably out of the relegation basket with two matches to the end of the season, having climbed to the ninth position with 38 points. Tema Youth on the other hand is fourteenth on the league table with 34 points.
