Ghana’s all-time leading goal scorer, Asamoah Gyan made his long awaited 2020/21 Ghana Premier League debut after 17yrs yesterday but his presence made little impact as Legon Cities Football Club drew blanks with Medeama Sporting Club at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The fearsome striker [Gyan] who completed his move with the branding grandmasters [Legon Cities] on transfer deadline day played only twenty minutes of the game having come on in the 70th minute to replace Raphael Ocloo.

Judging from his numbers, many believed Asamoah Gyan’s presence alone would be enough to secure the three points for Legon Cities but the Medeama defenders manage to weave a spider web around the Black Stars striker which prevented him from having a free night.

Prior to leaving the Ghana Premier League for abroad 2003, Asamoah Gyan had scored 10 goals in 16 matches for Dansoman based Liberty Professionals, only Shaibu Yakubu had done better than in front of goal than Gyan.

Asamoah Gyan, otherwise known as the Baby Jet has also represented Ghana at eight AFCON tournaments – 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2019.
