Arsenal manager – Mikel Arteta has explained that Thomas Partey’s latest injury could be bad enough to prevent him from playing a part in Ghana’s 2021 African Cup of Nations [AFCON] qualifying match against Sudan.

The Ghanaian midfield metronome [Partey] was forced off after the first half during Arsenal’s 0-3 defeat to Aston Villa at the Emirates stadium yesterday, a game the Gunners failed to provide a single moment of spark in 90 minutes.

Speaking in his post match interview, the Spaniard could not reveal the severity of Partey’s injury since the player will undergo scan today but the manager was quick to add that the decision to release or not to release the player will be dependent on the scan result:

“I don’t know [if he will go away with Ghana now]. As I said, the doctor will have to have a look at him and probably scan him. Then we will decide what to do with him.”

Thomas Partey joined Arsenal on transfer deadline day from Atletico Madrid in a deal worth £45 million [€50 million], becoming the most expensive Ghanaian player of all time.
