Aiteo CAF Awards: Dr. Ahmad explains why African based footballer of the year has been expunged

Dr. Ahmad Ahmad, President of the Confederation of Africa Football has explained the reason why CAF has struck off the African based Footballer of the Year category from the Aiteo CAF Awards ceremony.

“Best is always the best. We cannot have two best so it’s simple as that,” Dr. Ahmad told Journalists on Wednesday, January 03 at the Accra International Conference Center.

According to the CAF President, the locally based players are capable of winning the highest individual gong so there is no need therefore to categorize them.

“The decision is based on rewarding excellence and not double standard. What we are trying to do is to promote excellence,” he adds.

The 2017 Aiteo CAF Awards will be held at the Accra International Conference Center on Thursday, January 04, 2018.
