Charles Osei Asibey, President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation [GAF] was the most excited person at the D.G Hathiramani Hall of the Accra Sports Stadium where the 9th African Armwrestling Championship was held as Ghana bagged the most medals, winning the event as host.
The Golden Arms got a total of 88 medals comprising 31 gold, 32 silver and 25 bronze medals and amassed 777 points.
Ghana was followed by Nigeria with 14 medals made up of 6 gold, 6 silver and 2 bronze; Mali were third with medals comprising 6 gold and 4 silver medals,
Egypt had 4 medals – 2 gold, one silver and one bronze; Togo had 6 medals made up of one gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze, while Cameroun got 2 medals comprising one gold and one silver.
Ghana was the only nation that presented a youth team who competed among themselves.
The director of Kofikrom Pharmacy who is also vice president of the GAF and chairman of the Greater Accra Armwrestling Association was also glad to be associated with the well organized event and prayed that government will grant tax rebates to companies that support sports.
Dr. Emmanuel Owusu Ansah who was there to represent the Minister of Sports commended the GAF and urges the youth to do sports to keep them fit and healthy, and also star for the nation as worthy ambassadors.
