Former CAF Champions League campaigners – Aduana Stars are a step away from clinching their second Ghana Premier League [GPL] trophy after beating WAFA 1-0 at the Nana Agyeman Badu Park in Dormaa Ahenkro on Wednesday to extend their lead on the log.
Hardworking striker Derrick Sasraku found the back of the net in the 55th minute to set the vociferous fans agog as they dance and cheered their beloved team on to the blast of the final whistle.
With several of their key players [Majeed Ashimeru, Razak Abalora, Daniel Lomotey, Komlan Agbeniandan, Nuhu Musah, Aminu Mohammed, and Francis Boateng] out, the journey was expected to be longer than usual for the soccer physicians as Aduana Stars chased them on the field until they got their much needed equalizer.
The nature of the pitch affected the beauty of the game as the soccer physicians [WAFA] could hardly stroke four passes together in the first half. Aduana Stars took control of the first half, but could not create a single clear goal scoring opportunity as the visitors defended in numbers.
But the story was not the same in the 55th minute as Rashid Alhassan’s long throw into the eighteen yard box of the visitors missed everybody except the head of Derrick Sasraku who headed the ball beyond goalkeeper Ayi to set the supporters ablaze.
Below are the results at a glance after matchday 27:
Aduana Stars 1-0 WAFA
Tema Youth 0-2 Elmina Sharks
Wa All Stars 2-1 Hearts of Oak
Great Olympics 4-2 Bolga All Stars
Berekum Chelsea 2-0 Bechem United
Ebusua Dwarfs 3-1 Inter Allies
