It was pop and champagne for former world champion – Yohan Blake as he rose above his compatriots to coast 10.06 seconds to win the men’s 100m semi-final race on Sunday, April 08, 2018 on the Gold Coast, Australia.
Yohan Blake eased past England medal hopeful Adam Gemili [10.11] to qualify for the final on Monday.
The Jamaican clocked 10.15 seconds in the preliminary round [Heat 8] to beat Nigeria’s Seve Ogunwele who coasted his season best – 10.20 seconds.
Surprisingly, Yohan Blake will be the last man standing for Jamaica in the final following the elimination of two Jamaicans – Oshane Bailey and Nigel Ellis in the semi-finals.
Bailey placed fourth in the semi-final 3, crossing the line in 10.32 seconds whiles Nigel Ellis clocked 10.38 seconds to place 7th in the semi-final [Heat 3].
The favourite for gold in the men’s 100m finals is Blake, but South Africa’s Akani Simbine and Adam Gemili are the wild cards going into the finals.
