Black Stars midfielder – Thomas Partey has become the latest player to suffer an injury ahead of Ghana’s all important AFCON 2021 qualifying match against Sudan this week.
The midfielder lasted just 45 minutes in Arsenal’s 0-3 loss to Aston Villa at Emirates Stadium before being forced off during the break and replaced by Dani Ceballos.
However speaking to the press in his post match interview, Mikel Arteta said Partey will have a scan on his suspected thigh injury today to determine how severe the injury is.
“I don’t know. As I said, the doctor will have to have a look at him and probably scan him. Then we will decide what to do with him.”
The Arsenal manager was not certain on whether Partey’s injury would be enough to see him withdraw from the Ghana squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
“We don’t know [whether he will withdraw],” he said.
“We have to scan him tomorrow or the day after and see what he felt straight away.
“Let’s wait and see what the magnitude of the injury is.”
Thomas Partey’s injury will come as a big blow to coach C.K Akonnor as he is striving to make a strong push to return the Black Stars to the elite level of African football.
