Ghanaian and Phoenix Rising Football Club attacking winger – Solomon Asante has earn a nomination in the Most Valuable Player category for the 2020 USL Championship Awards as announced by the United Soccer League [USL] on Thursday.

Having won the award in 2019 as he became the first player in the Championship to claim the Assists Champion award with nine helpers on the regular season, the winger caught the attention of the board again due to his unprecedented performance for Phoenix Rising this season.

Asante also notched six goals and led the Championship with 42 chances created as Phoenix finished tied for the league-high with 43 goals.


Asante is competing with two other players – Charlotte Independence’s Dane Kelly [former MVP award winner in 2017] and Louisville City FC’s Cameron Lancaster [finalist for MVP in 2018] for the individual gong.

The 2020 USL Championship Awards were voted on by team management and a league-wide media panel that included representation from every USL market.

The award winners will be announced between Wednesday, November 4 and Friday, November 6.
