The 2019 Tema Community Basketball League season has officially commenced in the aftermath of four scheduled games taking place at the Tema Community 4 Court earlier today.

In the opening round, former league winners Community 4 and defending champions Nungua Coldstore clinched big wins. Tema Community 4 won the 2017 league season.

Community 4 clinched a 42-33 win over Tema Heat who won silver in last year’s campaign in the biggest match of the round. Top performances from Muhaimin Guba and Guard Kent Fosu led Community 4 to the important win over its rival.

Coldstore on the other hand, stuttered during stretches of its 49-36 win over Teshie Vikings. The two time league winners missed a host of key players in the contest including lead Guard Kontor Appiah.

The biggest take away from the round was Sakumono Titans 47-41 win over Francophone Stars in the former’s maiden appearance in the Tema League. Veteran Coach Ken Caesar led the young team to the shock win over last season’s bronze medal winners.

Akatsi Rifles beat Tema Community 12 34-24 in the opening game.
