Pita Taufatofua, the cross-country skier from Tonga though appearing for his first Winter Games became the star man at the closing ceremony of the PyeonChang 2018 Games having appeared in his iconic shirtless form.

The Tongan – Taufatofua has been in the spotlight since walking in the opening ceremony of the Rio Olympics all oiled up and muscles bulging.

Pita Taufatofua broke the headlines again at the Pyeongchang opening ceremony on February 09 as he appeared in his traditional colourful form.

In his first appearance on Sunday night at the 2018 closing ceremony, Taufatofua was dressed in an outfit and flowers for part of the ceremony.

“I’ve got to stay warm, get the flowers out, let people see the color of Polynesia,” he said.

“What’s different here is that we’re no longer individual countries. We’re coming out together. That’s why I’m dressed the way I am. We’re all together, all the same.”

That wasn’t the case for the entire ceremony, however.

IOC president Thomas Bach brought out several athletes later in the event, including Taufatofua. And this time, he came out as we expected, without a shirt.

Taufatofua had said his goal was not to finish last in the 15K cross-country event. He was 114th out of 119 who finished the race.
